Westbrook, Connecticut Farmhouse
This pretty house is tucked away at the end of a long private drive and is surrounded by acres of protected woodland. The clients loved the look of the many 19th-century farmhouses which are found along the old roadways of the historic towns that dot the Connecticut shoreline, but did not want to spend their valuable free time endlessly maintaining the exterior of the house, so we used Azek for all of the exterior mouldings & trim boards, a fiberglass front entry door, and Marvin windows for all other fenestration. Few people ever realize that the clapboard siding on this house is actually vinyl since, by using rabbeted Azek trim boards to hide the ends of the vinyl panels, we were able to completely avoid the use of unsightly vinyl corner boards or J-channels. The Roman Doric columns on the front porch are fiberglass; the porch decking is Ipe. Benjamin Moore Essex Green was chosen for use on the front door and the windows shutters.
